My Approach to Bodywork

My work lives somewhere between therapeutic massage and deeply relaxing bodywork.

I use techniques including deep tissue massage, neuromuscular therapy, trigger point therapy, myofascial work, and Swedish massage to address areas of pain and restriction. But I don't believe that effective massage always needs to be forceful.

Instead, I tend to work slowly and intentionally, paying attention to how your body responds along the way. The nervous system is just as important to me as the muscles I'm working with.

Every session begins with a conversation about what you're experiencing and what would feel most supportive that day. Communication, consent, and your comfort remain an important part of the session from beginning to end.

Training & Education

My interest in the relationship between the body and mind began long before I became a massage therapist.

I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from George Mason University, where my studies included coursework in mindfulness and well-being. I later traveled to Rishikesh, India, to complete a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Yoga Vini Ashram.

I completed my 680-hour massage therapy education at Boulder Massage Therapy Institute, including training in trauma-informed approaches to bodywork. Since becoming a massage therapist, I've continued my education with specialized training in neuromuscular therapy for TMJ and jaw pain, along with ongoing study of therapeutic and somatic approaches to working with the body.

I'm also a Certified Trauma-Informed Breathwork Facilitator through Integrative Breath, and my background includes training and practice in Reiki, meditation, yoga, and other contemplative traditions.

All of these experiences have shaped the way I work, but I don't believe healing comes from having the longest list of techniques. More than anything, I try to bring skill, curiosity, compassion, and presence to the person on my table.

Experience Working With Athletes

My experience as a massage therapist has given me the opportunity to work with a wide range of people and bodies, including collegiate athletes from the University of Denver and University of Colorado. I've provided massage for athletes in men's hockey, soccer and basketball, as well as women's gymnastics, lacrosse and basketball.

Working with athletes has strengthened my understanding of how repetitive movement, training demands, injury, and recovery can affect the body. I bring that experience into my work with every client. Whether you're an athlete, an active parent, recovering from an injury, living with chronic pain, or simply trying to feel better in your body.

Beyond the Massage Table

Outside of my work, much of my life revolves around spending time with my wife and family, getting outside in the Colorado mountains, running, practicing yoga and meditation, and continuing to explore the practices that help me become a little more present in my own life.

Sunyata Bodywork grew out of that same exploration. For me, this work is ultimately about creating a place where you can slow down, reconnect with your body, and receive the kind of care that helps you move through your life with a little less pain and a little more ease.

About Zachary Sage

Licensed Massage Therapist

Colorado License# MT.0025257

I'm a Licensed Massage Therapist and Certified Breathwork Facilitator, and the person behind Sunyata Bodywork. I live in Berthoud with my wife and our family, and I'm grateful to call this little corner of Colorado home.

My approach to bodywork comes from a simple belief: our bodies carry the history of our lives. Stress, injury, work, movement, and the experiences we move through can all shape the way we hold ourselves. I see massage as an opportunity not only to relieve pain, but to slow down, listen to the body, and create space for some of those patterns to soften.
